Today we claimed our Midnight Network tokens — and what was supposed to be a seamless process turned into a real $NIGHT-mare 👀. Luckily, after some trial and error, we cracked it and made it through. This isn’t meant as criticism of the Midnight team. Quite the opposite — we’re genuinely excited about what they’re building. The goal here is simply to share our experience so others can learn from it and become more web3-savvy. Let’s break it down: the good, the bad, and the ugly.
1. Design 🎨 First, credit where credit’s due: the Midnight team built a proper web3 app. It’s clean, intuitive, and easy to navigate — a solid 9/10. The only drawback? No dark mode. It’s 2025, and if your project is literally called Midnight, dark mode should be a must. For transparency: we chose to claim tokens using our cold-stored pledge address, secured with a Ledger Nano S hardware wallet — similar to what many SPOs are likely to use.
2. Blockchains ⛓️ The claiming platform supports all the big names — Bitcoin, Ethereum, XRP, Solana — but Cardano sits right at the top of the list. This guide focuses exclusively on Cardano. If you’re using another chain, the steps may differ.
3. Wallets 👛 GlacierDrop currently supports these Cardano-native wallets and honestly, the list is quite generous. But hold tight, because this is exactly where our troubles began…
We love (and regularly use) most wallets listed here – except for GeroWallet and Yoroi Wallet . Sorry guys, no shade intended! We’ll give you a spin in the future, pinky promise. 🤞
Out of 4 wallets tested (Lace, Eternl, Typhon, and VESPR), only Lace automatically selected an Origin and Destination address from the same wallet seamlessly. For the others, we had to disconnect after step 1 and manually set the Destination address – thanks team for including that option.
However, with Lace we hit a wall at step 4 – after signing ✍️ the message, we kept getting this lovely error on repeat: “Message content does not match the expected value: STAR …” Total bummer. None of the other wallets worked either… except one!
Before we reveal the winner – here’s our honorable mention: We love VESPR on mobile, it’s an excellent wallet. BUT listing it as “supported” when it doesn’t fully support hardware wallets yet? That’s just asking for unnecessary stress.
And now introducing our winner! 🏆 The Oscar goes to Typhon Wallet for best performance under pressure! Huge thanks to Ashish for saving our nerves – without Typhon, we might’ve rage-quit after all that wallet back-and-forth.
4. Terms & Conditions 📜 This step was unusual. You need to accept the terms before downloading them — but to do that, you must first scroll all the way to the bottom. A small quirk, but one worth noting.
5. What happens next? 🔜 After jumping through all the hoops and clearing the hurdles – congrats, you did it! Claim complete. 🏁 But don’t bounce just yet make sure to download your GlacierDrop Claim document before you leave. You’ll thank us later.
6. The Receipt 🧾 Once downloaded, your receipt will look like this. Simple, clean and ready to be filed under “Proof I Survived GlacierDrop 2025.” 😅
Final Thoughts 💭 For something that’s been hyped as the next big thing in revolutionary tech, we expected a smoother ride. A bit more rigorous testing could’ve saved users from surprises and facepalms. Let’s do better next time, web3.
Nevertheless, we’re excited to be one step closer to receiving our $NIGHT tokens – and who knows, maybe even becoming a validator on the Midnight Network! 🌒 Thanks for sticking with us through this beautiful mess. Want to support us? Delegate to our stake pool NOVA.
